Dispense with the registry fix garbage. To do so, skip to Replacing the PxHelp20registry value. You would have to define not "recognizing" drives. Click the Firmware link and look for any available CD/DVD firmware updates (for example: HLDS CH10L DVD-R/RW drive firmware update).
