I have personally faced this problem while using Windows 8 Pro. Could the answer have to do with the several previous updates that were preparing WIN7/8 for WIB10? I create an image (Ghost) of my system, once a month and usually have 6-8 to choose from before the oldest gets replaced by the newest. Or to put it another way, why do two machines have more than two dozens updates waiting and no icon notification whatsoever?

LOL. This was done for Windows XP... For me it was caused by this one: KB3065987 Windows Update Client for Windows July 2015 UnInstall that update, and the icon should come back. Many times we don't want to waste our Internet bandwidth in downloading huge updates, so using this option we can decide when to download these updates.

Thanks for posting! When the monthly windows updates arrives and has downloaded then you see windows updates available. It is not clear whether this applies only to missing power, network, volume icons or others. Next, I installed KB2952664 and after that, the "upgrade to W10 icon" appeared in the notification area but not the "WU icon ".

avze Member 2015-Sep-13 3:10 am I do not have these updates But still something is not right here.My system is clean with no malware.I do not want to always check for Updates from the Control Panel all the time.
