The initial "Checking for updates..." phase for this month's March 2016 Patch Tuesday updates required just over 2 hours before it finally reported that 11 important updates were available for download. I did read while looking into the problem that this service when starting the windows update was heavy on the CPU and this laptop only has a celeron single core. Before I used WSUS, I had to shut down ALL antivirus programs, deactivate WU and force it to do no updates, ignore the copious warning messages from the Action Centre, unplug I too was frustrated with trying every possible fix I could find - all to no avail.
